Gayle Moher had her first taste of the limelight as a teenage beauty
queen. At nineteen, she was crowned Miss Norwich in her home town. More
than two decades on, Gayle is still trying to find fame and fortune
through her looks, but she's changed an awful lot. Gayle's bodybuilding
career grew out of a chance encounter with a trainer at her local gym.
She took up the sport seriously in the late eighties and soon moved from
Norwich to the United States to compete full-time. Almost 20 years
later, she's still hungry for the big prizes.
She's just arrived back home in Scottsdale, Arizona after
bodybuilding's ultimate event; Miss Olympia. It was Gayle's first time
on stage in eighteen months. A divorce from her third husband had kept
her out of competition.
Gayle spent a year training flat-out for the Olympia, she came ninth
and won nothing. At that end of the leader board it's slim pickings,
only the top three places win big money. So, unlike most elite athletes,
just a day after competing she's straight back to her day job. She has
an appointment for a muscle worship session, a term she doesn't like to
use.
Today's appointment is with Rommel, a 39 year old bus driver and long
time fan of female bodybuilding. Rommel can only afford a couple of
sessions a year, so seeing Gayle is a big deal. Rommel's hour with her
is costing him a week's wages, but the honour of seeing a bodybuilding
superstar, in prime condition, makes it worth every cent.
Each session is different but, generally, Gayle will pose for her
clients as well as allowing them to touch, kiss or massage her muscles,
Occasionally, Gayle will wrestle, she'll even lift her client, weight
permitting. However, Gayle has very strict rules about what is on offer.
Gayle trains at the gym every day, often with her seventeen year old
daughter Courtney from her second marriage.
Gayle's popularity spreads way beyond the States and in a few days
time, due to popular demand, she's off on a whistle-stop tour to meet
the muscle lovers of Europe. For fans who can't meet Gayle in person,
there are other ways to get close to their idol. She works with,
business partner, ex fire
fighter Lauren Powers doing photo shoots and making videos to sell
online.
Lauren has flown to Arizona to meet up with Gayle and shoot their
latest offering. They call themselves the Dynamic Duo. Their videos all
feature story lines that the girls have come up with themselves. They
have a hectic schedule which is just about to get crazier as they are
leaving on a two week, six city, tour to meet the muscle worship fans of
Europe. Their itinerary comprises: London, Athens, Mikanos, Milan,
Naples and Norwich.
Gayle and Lauren Ride Out
After a 22 hour flight they arrive in London for 48 hours with almost
30 admirers to meet. Gayle's first booking of the day is a regular.
Daniel is so dedicated to muscle worship that he will make a 4 hour
round trip, by coach, to see Gayle for an hour. In the last five years,
he's spent almost £30,000 on sessions and gifts for his favourite
female bodybuilders. The fans can pay up to $700 for a single session.
After the two weeks, Lauren heads back to work in the States while
Gayle detours to Norwich for a long overdue family visit. Over the two
weeks, the girls have made close on $10,000 each.
